Following an anonymous tip, Dundee High School has temporarily suspended its wrestling team's activities as investigations unfold into allegations of hazing involving team members. In a letter that Superintendent Scott Leach sent to the community, it was revealed that videotaped evidence of what was described as hazing, fights, and physical assaults amongst team members exists, a development reported by ClickOnDetroit.
After receiving the complaint, school officials, including the resource officer, started probing the matter last month. During the initial step of investigating these serious claims, they interviewed coaches, wrestlers, and parents. As reported by CBS News Detroit, a Title IX investigation spearheaded by Thrun Law Firm is now in process, and concurrently, local law enforcement is also delving into the allegations.
As the inquiry continues, Scott Leach has called for a cessation of all wrestling-related activities within Dundee High School, emphasizing the gravity of the situation for a program known for its legacy of eight consecutive Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 team state championships. Leach stressed, "At Dundee Community Schools, we expect our student-athletes to adhere to the highest standards of conduct," echoed in a statement reported by 13ABC.
The school district is reaching out to the community, urging anyone with information to come forward and share tips anonymously if preferred. This can be done through the OK2SAY program by calling or texting. All wrestling-related activities are on hold pending the outcome of the investigations.
