Dunwoody residents have an upcoming opportunity to weigh in on the N. Shallowford Path project. City officials are holding a Public Information Open House on May 13, where they're seeking community input on the 0.8-mile shared use path along North Shallowford Road, as announced by the City of Dunwoody's website. Set to enhance walkability in the region, the project will run from Chamblee Dunwoody Road to Cotillion Drive.
Envisioned as a boost to both bicycle and pedestrian access, the path aims to integrate features like wayfinding signage, decorative pedestrian lighting and enhanced landscaping. According to a statement obtained by the City of Dunwoody news release, Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith commented, “This project reflects our commitment to connectivity, safety, and a more walkable Dunwoody.”
The open house, conceived as a drop-in-style meeting, will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. at the N. Shallowford Annex located on 4470 N. Shallowford Road. Those attending the meeting can anticipate a dialogue with project team members, an examination of the plans and the means to submit their feedback, either directly there or via an online comment card.
The N. Shallowford Path project is not new; it's building on earlier infrastructural efforts, notably a segment of shared use path completed in 2020 that connects to the Georgetown Gateway project. With a plethora of funding lined up, including a $400,000 federal grant awarded in January 2025 for design and $560,000 from the Atlanta Regional Commission, supported by city SPLOST funds, the project is a mix of federal and local investments. The path project, as explained by the news release, will adhere to all federal requirements and is slated for construction beginning in 2029.
