DeKalb County voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots early for the upcoming Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) special election, with early voting kicking off May 27 and running through June 13. As detailed on DeKalb County's official website, voters can cast their votes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and extended hours are available over two weekends. The weekend voting schedule includes Saturdays, May 31 and June 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays, June 1 and June 8, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In a statement obtained by DeKalb County’s news release, Executive Director of DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections Keisha Smith emphasized the significance of the PSC and encouraged voter participation. "Our PSC plays an important role in our daily lives, and it’s important for voters to remain engaged in each and every election," she stated. Residents can choose their preferred party's candidates, as the June 17 special primary election presents both Districts 2 and 3 contests on all DeKalb ballots, despite PSC being a statewide office where, voters do not cast votes by district.
DeKalb County is offering ten early voting locations for added convenience, and six of these locations also feature secure drop boxes for absentee ballots. Prospective voters have until June 6 to request an absentee ballot for the special election. A wealth of information, including sample PSC ballots and a list of polling places with any temporary or permanent changes can be found on DeKalb's election website, or by contacting their office directly at 404-298-4020.
Early voting has been made accessible at a variety of locations, including Berean Christian Church, Bessie Branham Recreation Center, and the DeKalb Voter Registration & Elections Office. Other sites like Dunwoody Library and Emory University are also on the list of available options for voters. With a few locations such as New Life Community Alliance, and the Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library also offering convenient drop box access for their absentee ballots.
