Eight individuals required hospital treatment following a collision involving a limousine and a pickup truck yesterday afternoon in Darlington Township, Beaver County. The accident led to a shutdown of Route 51 for several hours, impacting traffic flow through the region. According to a report by WTAE, the limousine was transporting a group from Boardman, Ohio, to a Pittsburgh Pirates game.
State police indicated that the mishap occurred when a 17-year-old driving a pickup attempted to turn left from East Palestine Road onto Route 51 and was struck by the limousine. In the chaos, as revealed by Monica Gross, an employee at Harry’s Place Restaurant, a tire was dislodged from the pickup, finding itself on the roadside. In her statement detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh, Gross mentioned that "I heard a loud boom," prompting her to rush to the scene to assist with wet rags to clean blood from the faces of the injured.
Eleven individuals were involved in the crash, with eight being hospitalized with serious injuries, which, fortunately, were not life-threatening. The incident deeply impacted Gross, who witnessed at least seven passengers in the limo, including the driver. "I was scared, because with the girl laying when she got out of the car, was complaining about her head hurt and her back," Gross stated, as per CBS News Pittsburgh.
The limousine passengers, who were on their way to a sporting event, were reportedly not using seatbelts at the time of the crash. Concerning the teenage driver of the pickup, Gross said, "He did admit that he pulled out and he rushed to it, and he shouldn't of. He should have waited before he pulled out," during the interview with CBS News Pittsburgh. The young driver was charged with a stop sign violation, as per the police documents.
