El Paso County leaders have unequivocally denied claims that their jurisdiction operates as a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants. In a recent statement, Congressman Jeff Crank, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, Sheriff Joe Roybal, and El Paso County Commissioners made their stance clear against such policies. The group praised an amendment to the Sanctuary Jurisdiction Designation List from the Department of Homeland Security, which aligns with their position.
Misspeaking the skies of Colorado politics, the unified statement took a firm stand: "There is no daylight between President Trump and El Paso County on our efforts to combat illegal immigration and hold criminals accountable in the Pikes Peak region," according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The officials condemned what they identified as the adverse effects of the Biden administration's immigration policies and Colorado's sanctuary laws.
The El Paso County leaders have argued that these policies are detrimental to the safety of their communities. They have been actively participating in efforts to reverse what they perceive as dangerous legislation. "We are working to reverse Colorado’s sanctuary laws, and we are fully collaborating with ICE Officials, as state statute allows," the officials said, as obtained by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, emphasizing their commitment to local safety.
