El Paso ISD students are stepping straight from the classroom to the frontlines of healthcare, showcasing their skills at the district's third annual Healthcare Expo and Hiring Fair, according to an article published by EPISD. Held at the Starlight Event Center on May 21, this event connected eager learners from various health science programs with healthcare professionals, educational paths, and immediate job opportunities. More than 300 students participated, many from notable programs such as the Center for Career and Technology Education and various P-TECH academies in the district, according to El Paso ISD.
Denise Galvez, a Career and Technical Education (CTE) facilitator, underscored the event's aim, saying, "Our goal is to prepare students not just for graduation, but for real careers that make a difference," as per El Paso ISD. The expo featured a slew of interactive sessions, live healthcare demonstrations, and job interviews that were conducted on the spot with local hospitals and clinics, aiming to solidify career paths and future steps for the students.
Superintendent Diana Sayavedra, along with El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson, were present, with the mayor encouraging students to build their careers within the community. "This experience gives me the chance to not only find a job and make money for college, but it also helps me gain real-world experience in my field," said Maximillian Estorga, a student from Silva Health Magnet High School, as obtained by El Paso ISD, reflecting on the practical benefits of the expo.
