The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced upgrades at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport’s Terminal 1, including improved restrooms and a new dining option. The project was done in partnership with Hawaiian Airlines, which invested $14 million following a 2022 agreement related to Transportation Security Administration checkpoint relocation. The upgrades also include a new breakroom for Transportation Security Administration staff. Hawaiian Airlines’ managing director for airport operations, Monica Kobayashi, said, “By working together, Hawaiian Airlines and the HDOT were able to pool resources, share expertise and deliver a project that benefits everyone who passes through this terminal,” according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation.
Panda Express has opened at Terminal 1, operated by Hawaii Department of Transportation’s concessionaire partner HMSHost. The fast-food chain began serving American Chinese cuisine on Tuesday and held a grand opening and blessing. Chris Kadohiro, HMSHost’s director of operations, told the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, “The addition of Panda Express in the interisland terminal, as well as the Terminal 2 location coming in August will allow us to increase passenger satisfaction and provide them great comfort food as they travel.”
Furniture upgrades are taking place at HMSHost outlets in Terminal 1 of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, and the Waialua Café and Bar will open soon in the Mauka Terminal. Hawaii Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen said, “These projects are important components that add to the overall experience for residents and visitors who use our airports.” Photos of the new developments, including Sniffen’s remarks and the restroom blessing ceremony, are available from the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation.
