The El Paso Community College (EPCC) has recently taken a moment to not only recognize the academic achievements of its student athletes but also to celebrate the physical prowess and sporting triumphs that have marked this past season. At their 2025 awards banquet, held in the Administrative Services Center Boardroom, the college lauded the collective exertions of various teams, including Baseball, Softball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, as well as Men's and Women's Half Marathon outfits. The event also saw accolades presented to students who achieved academic excellence, with some earning places on the President's and Dean's lists for their high GPAs.

Speaking to the dual commitment these students have demonstrated, EPCC Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services Dr. Carlos Amaya remarked, "Student athletes are a special group," further noting, "You have a level of greatness that leads to attaining better grades." In keeping with the theme, Dr. Steven Smith, EPCC Vice President of Instruction and Workforce Education, reminded the attendees that "You are foremost a student," emphasizing that athletic careers may end, but education persists, according to EPCC News.

The banquet also served to highlight the historic season of the EPCC baseball team, which is currently competing in the Region 5 tournament. With a record of 39-17, the team marked its first winning season since 2008 and achieved several other milestones, including record home victories and conference wins, as documented in the team's performance this season. The achievements of individual players such as Alan Nava and Carlos Mauldin were given particular note, with both players earning the BIG STICK Award for surpassing 70 hits in the season.

In the domain of softball, head coach Kathryn Gutierrez presented awards to standout players like Maria Ontiveros and Dulce Ontiveros, with Priscilla Medina securing the top pitcher accolade. On the track and field side, EPCC's athletes demonstrated their capacity to not only compete but to excel, with Antonia Ronoh notably double-dipping in victories in Cross Country and Half Marathon events for women. The men's team performances equally held their ground, securing top spots in national competitions. "Watching these athletes push themselves to conquer a seemingly inhumane feat is inspiring in itself, I am very proud of our athletic programs," EPCC Athletic Director Felix Hinojosa expressed, as per EPCC News.
