In Fairfield, a band of teenage boys found themselves facing the law after a string of attempted vehicle burglaries last week. Fairfield Police Department curtailed what could have spiraled into a night of petty theft.
The incident began last Friday when a woman on Lyon Rd saw 3-4 teens vandalize her car, attempting to burgle it. Nothing was stolen, but "there was damage to her steering column," as detailed in a social media post from the Fairfield Police Department. The narrative trailed into another report from Redwood Drive, where five hoodie-cloaked males were seen testing vehicle doors; no report of a crime there, but the officers linked the events.
A conscientious eye and firm resolve brought Officers Edmisten and Scherer to the 2700 block of Peppertree Drive, where they spotted a gaggle of youthful figures lurking near a car, only for the group to scatter upon police arrival, yet another car was found tampered with.
Later that evening, Officer Brown's steadfast pursuit bore fruit, locating two of these teens near the original complex. The teens sparked a chase once they realized an officer was in pursuit and dashed west on Cement Hill Road. Both culprits were apprehended, with one found harboring a stolen gun. The armed teen was booked into Juvenile Hall on weapons charges, whereas "the unarmed teen was cited for resisting arrest and released to his grandmother," the Fairfield Police Department shared.
The crackdown didn't end there, four more teens were apprehended, reprimanded with citations for curfew violations, and handed over to their guardians. Fairfield PD explained, "Due to strenuous requirements that must be met before juveniles can be booked into Juvenile Hall, citations and delivery to guardians are often more efficient." The young offenders might still face legal repercussions pending the DA's Office decision on charges or alternative measures.
