Residents of Flagstaff can breathe a little easier knowing that the City is rolling out additional dates for its pine needle pickup initiative. Aimed to help locals tidily dispose of flammable debris from their properties, this program reflects the City's proactive stance on wildfire prevention. As the initiative expands, several neighborhoods have been slated for the appearance of roll-off dumpsters specifically reserved for pine needle disposal.
According to the City of Flagstaff's announcement, Rock Ridge Estates, Ridge Crest, and Anasazi Ridge are scheduled first, with services running from May 16 through May 23. Lynwood and Cheshire will follow, with dumpsters available from June 2 to June 9. Later in June, Country Club Estates will have access from the 16th to the 23rd, and eventually, Boulder Point from June 30 to July 7. The City has made it clear that while dumpsters will be strategically placed in these neighborhoods, they remain open to all City residents looking to safely and responsibly dispose of only pine needles.
The Flagstaff Fire Department has issued a strong recommendation for residents to remove excess pine needles from around their homes to significantly reduce the risk of wildfires. The dangers of such fires are acute in areas rich with pine trees, where dry foliage can serve as tinder to quickly propagate flames. Crucially, officials urge homeowners to not only dispose of needles but also to familiarize themselves with safety protocols outlined in the Wildland Fire Action Guide available on the City's website.
The Fire Department has also expressed concern over the misuse of designated dumpsters, emphasizing that bulk trash, larger green waste, and commercial waste should not be placed in them. In the event of spotting illegal dumping or overfilled dumpsters, residents are to immediately report such incidents to the Fire Department at 928-326-4419.
