In a gesture of civic mindedness that resonates within the community, Ryan Bowmaster, a 15-year-old student from Fleming Island, steps up to enhance safety for children around water bodies. Aiming for the rank of Eagle Scout, Ryan focused his community project on building a life jacket rack for the "Kids Don't Float" initiative. This program underlines the basic truth that safety on water is non-negotiable, especially for kids.
His contribution now stands ready at the Knight's Boat Ramp and Marine in Green Cove Springs. Through coordination with the Clay County Sheriff's Office Marine unit and assistance from Deputy Brooks Morrell and others, including Clay County Parks & Rec and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), he successfully made his mark. The life jacket rack not only provides a vital safety tool for children but also offers information about marine life conservation.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office acknowledged Ryan's efforts on their social media, commending the young Fleming Island student for his commitment to making a difference in the community. "Thank you, Ryan, for being such an outstanding young citizen! Your commitment to safety and service makes you a true role model," reads the Sheriff’s Office post.
