Michael Ray Groves faced justice in a Florida courtroom after pleading guilty to a host of charges related to child exploitation. On Tuesday, Groves, with a birth date of October 19, 1966, was sentenced to 25 years by the Florida Department of Corrections without the possibility of earning time off for good behavior, followed by a life on probation and the heavy mark of a sexual predator designation, as reported by the Hernando County Sheriff's official release.

His guilty plea encompassed 15 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, along with two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation, and a count of Showing Obscene Material to a Minor. Previously on May 1, the Hernando County Sheriff's detectives arrested, charging him with 1 count of Sexual Battery by Custodian and 1 count of Showing Obscene Material to a Minor. A further investigation into Groves for additional counts of alleged sexual abuse of minors had been ongoing, as described in the same official press release.

It all began on November 18, 2023, when Hernando County Sheriff’s detectives were tipped off about the possession of child pornography allegedly tied to Groves. Following a warranted search of Groves' online accounts, officials located 73 files containing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). On January 24, 2024, upon confronting him at a Brooksville residence, detectives received a confession from Groves – he was the owner of the social media account and admitted to engaging with the CSAM files. This led to his subsequent arrest and fittingly, and without relief, the charges of Possession of Child Pornography, among others, as detailed by February's law enforcement statements.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis has expressed a strong zero tolerance for such crimes, stating in his release, “Any
and all tips are, and will be, meticulously investigated, no stone will be left unturned.” Groves' prosecution reflects the commitment to that stance, as the authorities continue to vet every lead in the pursuit of safety for our youngest citizens.
