Fort Collins has experienced a jolt of criminal audacity this past week, when a man allegedly armed with a firearm stepped into the ENT Credit Union on West Drake Road, demanding cash from frightened bank employees before vanishing on foot—a scene straight from a heist movie that shook up the local community. This incident, reported by the City of Fort Collins, occurred on Tuesday and spurred immediate action from law enforcement.
Isaac Meraz, the man suspected of this brazen daytime robbery, didn't make it far from the scene as Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) moved in rapidly, detaining him near the bank, his description a match for that of the bank’s unwelcome visitor, authorities booked him into Larimer County Jail on multiple felony charges including menacing, aggravated robbery, and theft over $20k, demonstrating the seriousness with which they're taking the matter. FCPS and the FBI are now in a collaborative dance of justice, untangling the threads of crime as they work through this investigation together.
The ripples of the robbery lapped at the doors of Rocky Mountain High School, which found itself locked down, though briefly, and ENT Credit Union suspended its operations temporarily, causing a ripple effect in the day’s commerce and school activities. Assistant Chief Frank Barrett, who resides over FCPS Criminal Investigations Division, highlighted the effectiveness of community vigilance and the swift response of law enforcement to the unfolding situation, "As we remain committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe, we want to assure the public that swift action was taken following this armed bank robbery," stressing the importance of alertness, as obtained by the City of Fort Collins.
