As Jeep Weekend concludes in Galveston County, law enforcement has reported a total of 275 arrests. According to a statement provided to ABC13, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) stated that the arrests resulted in 278 misdemeanor charges and 52 felony charges. Authorities also recovered 42 firearms during the event.
While the arrests and confiscations have notably increased from the 243 arrests in 2023 and the 183 in 2022, this year's figures still represent a reduction from the 313 arrests in 2024. In an attempt to provide a safer environment, authorities have been expanding the enforcement on the Bolivar Peninsula. This tighter control saw over 160 arrests and 30 guns confiscated last Saturday alone, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
Sheriff Jimmy Fullen implemented several new restrictions and checkpoints this year in response to previous incidents at the event. Law enforcement and emergency presence was significantly increased, with over 520 officers from 16 different agencies, supported by 30 EMS units and air support, assigned to monitor the extensive beach gathering.
Despite the increase in arrests, some local residents believe the heightened presence of law enforcement to have made a significant impact on improving safety. "The increase in law enforcement presence has made a big impact," one homeowner expressed in an interview highlighted by FOX26 Houston. They noted that without the active enforcement, the usual disruptions and commotion linked to Jeep Weekend would likely have been more evident throughout the neighborhood.
