Gaston County's latest initiative is taking a 'quack' at increasing water safety awareness with a rubber duck campaign aimed at reducing child drownings. The "Don’t Duck Out on Water Safety" program consists of sharing essential water safety tips and grim child fatality statistics through a short video. according to details provided by Gaston County Government.
In furtherance of this effort, local agencies like Social Services, Gaston Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Management & Fire Services have decided to start distributing rubber ducks across the community. Each duck is tagged with water safety facts and tips, an approach both fun and educational. Brittany Hendricks, Stephanie Westbrook, and Taylor Forte are the contact persons for offices or organizations interested to get involved, as per the online announcement.
The county is not stopping at the distribution of playful ducks. Plans are to actively go out into the community during the summer months, to directly engage with residents and impress upon them the importance of water safety. This proactive approach is part of a broader campaign to ensure that residents have both the knowledge and resources necessary to prevent tragic accidents.
For those interested in joining the campaign, getting involved couldn't be easier. Potential partners and participants are encouraged to directly reach out via email.
