In the wake of significant weather disturbances that left many Pittsburgh residents without power and needing to replenish essential supplies, Giant Eagle has announced a supportive measure. Today, the prominent grocery chain will offer a 15% discount across its stores in various Pennsylvania counties, as reported by Audacy. Customers making purchases at Giant Eagle and Market District locations in Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Indiana Counties can avail themselves of the discount. However, certain items like milk, alcohol, and tobacco, among others, are excluded.
Understanding the burdens placed on families due to unexpected expenses from the recent storms, Giant Eagle's CEO, Bill Artman, emphasized the company's commitment to aiding the community. "As the Pittsburgh community continues to recover from Tuesday evening’s severe weather, our teams are working diligently to support our neighbors in need," Artman stated, according to an interview with WPXI. Not merely limited to in-store shoppers, those utilizing curbside pickup or home delivery services on Sunday will also receive the discount automatically, broadening the accessibility of this relief effort.
According to Duquesne Light, the one-day discount initiative is timely and necessary, as the timeline for power restoration in some areas is estimated to be up to a week. As detailed by WTAE, consumers can obtain the 15% discount coupon upon entering the stores or at the time of checkout. The move is part of Giant Eagle's strategy to help replenish food supplies and other basics following an event that has disrupted the lives of many.
