Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made his picks for the student regents and a student representative for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Starting tomorrow, eight students will take their seats at universities across the state, with terms concluding at the end of May next year. An appointed student representative will also join the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for this same term.

From Prairie View A&M University, Jaquavous Doucette, a Mass Communications undergrad from Fort Worth, steps into the role for the Texas A&M University System. Over at Texas Southern University, Kohl Crawford, a Garland local studying Political Science, will represent his academy. Down in San Marcos, Donavan Brown combines his pursuits in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science as the Texas State University System's new student regent. And from Texas Tech University System, there's Eli Heath of Lubbock, an aspiring Chemical Engineer.

Texas Woman's University will see one of their own, Alyssa Flores, continue her academic journey as a Doctor of Physical Therapy candidate while serving as a regent. Another appointment saw Adrian Caraves, who has been collecting degrees like baseball cards—with an Associate of Science, a Bachelor of Science in Health, and now working on an MBA and MHA—take the position for the University of Houston System. The University of North Texas System will have Hayden Wochele of Waxahachie, currently chasing a BA in Political Science, as its new student regent.

Stepping up for the University of Texas System, we find Luke Schwartz, whose academic dossier includes an Associate of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, and a work-in-progress Doctor of Medicine. Schwartz, who also sports an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management, has served in the U.S. Air Force. Last but not least, Lisa Cantu will represent students on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, bringing with her a BA in Political Science, a Master of Public Service and Administration, and currently tackling a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Administration.

The significance of these appointments extends beyond the individuals; it's a commitment to student representation in the governance of higher education. It's hands-on experience at the intersection of education and policy for these student leaders, and it's a nod from the Governor's office to the voice of the student body. Details of the appointments were provided in a release from the Office of Governor Abbott.
