Amid solemn remembrances and patriotic displays, Governor Greg Abbott led a Memorial Day tribute at the Texas Capitol, honoring the fallen military service members who have laid down their lives for the nation over the past year. Governor Abbott emphasized the selflessness and heroism of these individuals, paying respects to their ultimate sacrifice.
"In this Capitol, we remember and honor those who gave their lives for our country," Governor Abbott remarked. "Today, we recognize Texas service members who were killed while serving since our last Memorial Day ceremony in this chamber. The legacy of these extraordinary men and women lives on because they fought and died for a cause greater than themselves. We honor their dedication, we remember their sacrifice, and we celebrate their lives," he continued in a statement highlighted on the official Office of the Texas Governor's website.
The event, which convened state legislators and families of the fallen, aimed to remember the valor and commemorate the stories of those who served. In attendance were Speaker Dustin Burrows, Senate Veteran Affairs Committee Chairman Kelly Hancock, and House Homeland Security, Public Safety, & Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Cole Hefner, each of whom joined in recognizing the service members.
Among the honored were Staff Sergeant Felix Berrios of the United States Army, Major Tobin Lewis of the United States Marine Corps, and Navy Seal Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Ingram of the United States Navy Seals. Their names were publicly acknowledged by the Office of the Texas Governor, ensuring that their contributions were not just a note in history, but a testament to the ongoing narrative of American bravery and sacrifice.
