
The City of Grand Prairie is set to celebrate Juneteenth with a series of community events that promise to bring together history, culture, and fun. Commencing on Thursday, June 12, the Dalworth Recreation Center, located at 2012 Spikes St., will host a volleyball game between local community members and the Grand Prairie Police Department from 6 to 8 p.m., according to the City of Grand Prairie
Following the sporting event, The Epic, located at 2960 Epic Place, will host a Juneteenth Block Party on Friday, June 13, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Attendees can expect to enjoy music, entertainment, and a variety of food while engaging in games and winning prizes. The celebration continues on Saturday, with a charity race and a parade to enrich to actively engage the community in cultural traditions. Early Saturday morning, at 7 a.m., the DFW HBCU Alumni 5K is scheduled to bring together HBCU supporters to raise scholarship funds for students across the nation, an event that requires prior registration.
The Juneteenth festivities reach a stride with a parade and a community cookout on the same day. Parade participants are set to line up at 9 a.m. at the City Hall, with the procession set to begin at 10 a.m. and make its way towards the Dalworth community, culminating at Tyre Park. The events are designed to provide a space for reflection, rejoicing, and recognition of a pivotal moment in American history — the end of slavery.
