A violent incident disrupted an Orange County campground when a gunman shot two people before turning the weapon on himself at a family-oriented event on Sunday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The shooting occurred at Canyon RV Park situated within Featherly Regional Park, near the confluence of Gypsum Canyon and the 91 Freeway, with the suspect, reportedly involved in an earlier confrontation, attacking at around 2:40 p.m., ratcheting up tensions and sending attendees scurrying for safety as law enforcement descended on the scene littered with the detritus of a day that had once promised relaxation and reunion.
An altercation that had taken root earlier in the day between individuals known to each other turned into violence when the suspect returned to the park, this time attempting vehicular harm before discharging his firearm and ultimately inflicting self-harm, Sgt. Gerard McCann indicated to NBC Los Angeles. Three individuals were taken to the hospital with uncertainty regarding their conditions, and a fourth had been grazed by the same vehicle.
Andrea Montano, a witness, recounted in a haze of disbelief. "I heard the shots right away and of course you’re looking to see where they’re coming from, so I told my daughter to get in the RV and we were just waiting to see what was happening, what was going to transpire," she told KTLA.
