Local law enforcement officers came together this week in Gwinnett County for a special cause that combined physical endurance and community support. Today, officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department, Norcross Police Department, and Gwinnett School Police participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, running 20 miles to support Special Olympics Georgia, as per the county's announcement.
Today’s run is more than a test of endurance — it’s a show of support for the nearly 18,000 athletes preparing for the Summer Games. Starting at 10:00 a.m. from Pike Nurseries in Suwanee, officers will make their way through Gwinnett County, passing the torch hand to hand. Their journey helps raise awareness for Special Olympics Georgia, with the games kicking off tomorrow at Emory University.
The public was welcome to witness the kickoff of this torch-bearing relay, as Gwinnett County announced. Members of the media and the general public were invited to capture the symbolic finish line scene, which took place around 2:30 p.m. at Mission World Church in Loganville. About 50 participants from different departments ran to carry the flame of hope across Gwinnett County.
