
On Sunday morning in Hanamā‘ulu, a 57-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting a structure on fire. First responders were called to Hehi Road around 9 a.m. after reports of the fire, according to the County of Kauai. No injuries were reported, as the Kaua‘i Fire Department quickly managed the situation.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing an individual intentionally set the structure on fire. Kaua‘i Police Department investigators were able to quickly identify and arrest Nelson Kane, a 57-year-old local, as the suspect. Kane has been charged with Arson in the First Degree in connection with the fire, as reported by the County of Kauai.
Kane was arrested at the scene and is being held at the Kaua‘i Police Department cellblock with a $20,000 bail. The investigation into the fire is ongoing, and more information will be released as the case develops, as stated by the County of Kauai.
