
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking within Hernando County, the local Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit has put two men behind bars, with a stash of fentanyl and other narcotics now off the streets. According to a press release issued by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and reported yesterday, detectives had conducted a thorough investigation leading to the arrest of Corey Burleigh, identified as a major trafficker of fentanyl, the synthetic opioid that has become a focal point of America's ongoing battle with drug addiction and overdose deaths.
Burleigh, born June 22, 1978, was detained last Monday, and at the time of his arrest, the detectives found him in possession of 73.1 grams of fentanyl, 2.4 grams of methamphetamine, and 1.7 grams of crack cocaine; the arrest was part of a larger crackdown aimed at stemming the tide of illegal narcotics circulating within the community. He faces an array of charges including trafficking in fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance, along with other drug-related offenses, and is held on a $192,500 bond.
Alongside Burleigh, an alleged accomplice, Troy McClure, with a date of birth listed as March 19, 1964, was taken into custody, he had been acting as a driver for Burleigh seemingly and he was caught holding 1 gram of fentanyl, according to the press release. The charges he faces include possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, with a bond set at $12,500; however, McClure is also held without bond on an unrelated charge.
