Houston residents can expect a mix of showers, thunderstorms and hot temperatures, as the city transitions into the weekend and prepares for the upcoming hurricane season. According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely today, especially between 10 am and 11 am, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Though most of the storm activity is expected north of Houston, isolated storms could occur along the I-10 corridor. The high temperatures are anticipated to hover near 88 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies throughout the day.
As reported by FOX 26 Houston, a weak cold front may contribute to brief heavy rains, which could bring along small hail and gusty winds in the morning. This front could also ignite a few more storms by Friday afternoon and evening. Despite the current storm chances, a high of nearly 90 degrees is expected today.
The National Weather Service suggests a gradual warming trend over the weekend with less chance of rain. Saturday’s forecast predicts partly sunny conditions with a high near 87 and only a 10 percent chance of rain. Sunday should bring a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, but the majority of the day will remain mostly sunny with temperatures climbing to a high near 92. Meanwhile, the nighttime temperatures throughout the weekend will stay in the low to mid-70s.
As we approach the starting line of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season on June 1, NOAA's predictions hint at an active year with 13-19 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes, and 3-5 major hurricanes. FOX 26 Houston notes that although the upcoming season is looking quiet so far due to Saharan dust traveling across the Atlantic, now is the time for Houston residents to prepare. Far from the Gulf Coast, Tropical Storm Alvin has formed in the eastern Pacific with winds peaking at 60 mph, posing no threat to the region.
