In the final game of their first-round playoff series, the New York Knicks recorded a 116-113 win over the Detroit Pistons last night. Jalen Brunson made a tiebreaking three-pointer with 4.3 seconds remaining, securing the victory and moving the third-seeded Knicks into the Eastern Conference semifinals. As reported by ABC7NY, Brunson ended the game with 40 points.
Coach Tom Thibodeau acknowledged Jalen Brunson's role in consistently contributing during high-pressure situations throughout the season. "He's at his best when his best is needed and he's done it all year," Thibodeau told The Guardian. As the Knicks prepare to face second-seeded Boston, the Pistons' season ended after Malik Beasley was unable to handle a pass in the final half-second, which could have provided a chance to tie the game and continue their playoff campaign.
Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby added 25 and 22 points, respectively, in the Knicks' win. The team saw an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter and a 15-point advantage earlier in the game diminish but maintained their position through late-game scoring and defensive plays. The Pistons, entering the series as the sixth seed after a strong regular season, concluded their playoff run with a 10th straight home playoff loss, a streak that began in 2008.
In the Western Conference, the LA Clippers extended their series against the Denver Nuggets to a seventh game with a 111-105 win, following back-to-back losses. James Harden led the Clippers with 28 points and eight assists, while Kawhi Leonard added 27 points. Despite Nikola Jokic scoring 20 of his 25 total points in the first half, the Clippers strengthened their defense after halftime, setting up a decisive Game 7 in Denver. "Game 7 is Saturday in Denver," The Guardian reported.
