The Jefferson Parish Library is rolling out the red carpet for food and cocktail aficionados with a couple of free demonstrations slated for this May. In a culinary nod to both sides of the river, the events will feature author and food writer Elizabeth Williams showcasing a spread of tapas including tomato bruschetta, a flavorful hummus, and a versatile yogurt dip. Joining her will be local mixologist Abigail Gullo, who will stir up some historical magic with two classic cocktails from her book “I Drink the World, The Golden Age of Cocktails, 1806-1910” – the Queen Bee and Remember the Maine.
According to an announcement by the Jefferson Parish Library, Williams and Gullo will enthrall attendees on Tuesday, May 20 at River Road Library, Jefferson, and Thursday, May 22 at West Bank Regional Library, Harvey, both sessions starting at 6:30 p.m. While these demonstrations won’t be serving up full meals, guests will get the chance to sample the prepared dishes. For those looking to sip on the featured cocktails, take note that only those over 21 will be served.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the Southern Food & Beverage Museum, Williams brings an impressive résumé to the table, including several books she’s authored on food and culture. Her perspective is sharpened by her past as a lawyer and her role as a judge in cooking competitions. Meanwhile, Gullo, praised for her innovative cocktail concoctions, has left her mark in the spirits industry from New York City to Seattle, Rome to Athens, and beyond. The library event will illuminate aspects of their vast experience for patrons interested in the culinary arts.
