The Georgia Department of Corrections has named a new warden to take charge at the Long Unit starting next month. Jennifer Clark, previously a Private Prison Monitor at Wheeler Correctional Facility, has been appointed to the role effective June 1. In a statement obtained by the Georgia Department of Corrections, Commissioner Tyrone Oliver praised Clark's leadership capabilities and work ethic.

Clark's steady climb through the ranks is highlighted by a storied career that began in 2002 as a Secretary at Georgia State Prison. Fast forward to 2021, she took on the role of Private Prison Monitor at Wheeler Correctional Facility, a position she currently holds. "Jennifer’s leadership experience and work ethic have proven to be an invaluable asset to the agency," Oliver said, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. "We are confident that her correctional knowledge and unwavering dedication will prove beneficial as she takes on this new role."

The responsibilities awaiting Clark are significant, as she will oversee all staff members and roughly 230 male offenders. Her tenure at the Georgia Department of Corrections has afforded her a wealth of experience. She served as Warden's Secretary, Business Manager, Deputy Warden of Administration, and Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment, before rising to the rank of Superintendent at Emanuel Probation Detention Center.

Clark's educational background is equally as robust, with an Associate degree in Business Administration from South University and a bachelor’s degree that encompasses Business, Criminal Justice and Justice Administration from Georgia Southern University. She also has a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University. Her commitment to excellence is further evidenced by the completion of various departmental training programs, including Amendments Management Training and Warden's Pre-Command, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections statement.

Clark is set to embark on her new journey as Warden at Long Unit where her multidisciplinary education and extensive correctional experience will no doubt be put to good use. Her ascension within the department is not just a testament to her individual dedication, but also a signal of the GDC's continual efforts to ensure effective management and oversight within the state's correctional facilities.
