The City of Clermont has officially announced John Graczyk as the new chief of its Police Department, following a period serving as the interim chief since this April. Graczyk, a veteran both in the realms of law enforcement and in military service, where he served with the U.S. Marine Corps, was met with unanimous support from the city leadership and community for his appointment.
Graczyk's tenure with Clermont Police began in 2005 when he was a patrol officer. He climbed the ranks over the years, holding positions as a sergeant in both the patrol division and the crime suppression unit, and as captain of the uniform service division before obtaining the title of deputy chief in January 2022, WFTV reported. His career advancement illustrates a clear trajectory of leadership within the department.
He steps into the shoes left by former Chief Charles Broadway, who resigned earlier this year to take a position at an another agency. Reflecting on his new position, Graczyk spoke of his commitment to the city and his eagerness to lead the team. "Clermont is my home and I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead this outstanding staff of sworn officers, civilian staff and volunteers," he said, according to a statement obtained by FOX 35 Orlando. His words echo a deep-seated dedication to the community he serves.
Graczyk's qualifications extend beyond his time on the ground. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed multiple leadership courses, including the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Program and the FBI LEEDA Executive Seminar, FOX 35 Orlando reports. His educational background is complemented by a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and he is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Expressing his readiness for the new role, Graczyk reaffirmed his dedication to the Clermont community. "I am grateful for the overwhelming support of this community, our City Council, Interim City Manager and staff, my family and the entire department. I am excited and eager to continue to find new and better ways to protect and serve our community," Graczyk told WFTV. His statement reflects the responsibilities he is set to undertake as the chief of police, building upon his past experiences to usher in a new era of law enforcement in Clermont.
