Hey Bay Area families, clear your calendars for outdoor fun because Johnson City Parks and Recreation is getting ready to roll out Kids to Parks Day. Slated for Saturday, May 17, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Willow Springs Park, this event is about getting youngsters off the couch and among the trees and trails. Now in its 15th year, Kids to Parks Day aims not just to get kiddos moving but to nurture a love for our natural spaces, critical at a time when screen time seems to triumph over tree-climbing.
The day features a lineup designed to get everyone's sneakers dirty easily and faces grinning. We're talking about an action-packed schedule from Esports to mountain biking, not to mention arts, crafts, and hiking. Thanks to Johnson City's press release, we know that various stations will be peppered throughout Willow Springs Park. And, for the kids (or the kids-at-heart) who love a good challenge, there'll be a scavenger hunt—win some prizes if you're savvy enough to complete it.
National Park Trust, the national organization behind this event, is determined to help build the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts—and it's safe to say Johnson City is embracing that mission wholeheartedly. Whether it's mountain biking with support from SORBA Tri-Cities or learning the ropes of lacrosse and rugby from local teams, there's a hands-on activity for all. Plus, with free admission, there's no excuse not to join the fun.
