The Kannapolis Youth Council, a dynamic group fostering leadership among young people, has officially marked a new chapter. In a ceremony, they paid homage to the dedications of outgoing senior members and ushered in the upcoming term's officers and representatives. The Youth Council plays a vital role in the community, serving as a platform for students' voices and their active participation in the city's fabric - from volunteering to engaging in leadership development programs.
According to details released by the City of Kannapolis' official site, approximately 45 high schoolers emerged successful through an application process and were named to the Council for the 2025-2026 term. The students hail from diverse educational backgrounds, representing A.L. Brown High School, Northwest Cabarrus High School, and other local institutions such as Lake Norman Charter School, homeschooled students, and more.
The outgoing senior class includes names such as Charion Armstrong, Daniel Zapata, and Katelyn Wiseman, who, alongside their fellows, formed part of the 2024-2025 body. Serving in a period brimming with initiatives, these members indeed set the bar for community engagement and leadership within the council. The outgoing officers include individuals like Moira Hunter and Sweta Chokshi, who held the co-chair positions, setting the tone for a standard of governance the new members can aspire to.
As the new term commences, Emmy Watkins and Ashley Vega step into the role of Co-Chairs, with Angel Ortiz slated to serve as the Vice Chair. The council also announced new faces like Teesha Mudliar and Zander Atwell joining as Marketing and Social Events officers, respectively. Offering continuity from the previous term, individuals such as Ayden Sniffin and Aiyana Ratliff return, ensuring the transition maintains the council's momentum in service and leadership.
