
The Kaua‘i Bus has launched an Account-Based Ticketing system that allows passengers to pay fares using the Kaua‘i Bus mobile app or the Holomua smartcard. Riders can tap to board without selecting a fare in advance, as the system automatically calculates the lowest possible fare, according to the County of Kauai.
The Kaua‘i Bus has launched a new Account-Based Ticketing system that includes fare capping, ensuring riders are not charged more than the monthly maximum. Open Payments will be added later this year, allowing payments with contactless bank cards or mobile wallets. Riders can manage their accounts through a mobile app or online portal, while cash users can continue to load funds onto their Holomua cards at retail locations or the Kaua‘i Bus office. Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami said, “This launch is a major step forward in our mission to make public transportation on Kaua‘i easier, more accessible, and more modern.
