Community leaders from Lake Stevens recently took their local concerns to the power corridors of Washington, D.C., as part of the Economic Alliance Snohomish County's (EASC) D.C. Fly In event. The delegation was on a mission from May 13 to advocate for federal attention to the needs of their city – infrastructure, transportation, childcare, education, and economic expansion being at the forefront among them.
The week-long advocacy stint included scheduled sit-downs with key federal players, including Representative DelBene, Representative Larsen, Senators Cantwell and Murray, and officials from the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Department of Transportation. The city's delegation aimed to quickly secure additional funding opportunities for pivotal infrastructure projects like the Bayview Trail Extension, South Lake Stevens Road Multi-Use Trail, and major road extensions, effectively leveraging their time to advance these critical agendas.
Since 2016, Lake Stevens has successfully drawn more than $45 million in grant funds aimed at community betterment—a feat not achieved in isolation but through sustained and strategic legislative advocacy such as this D.C. Fly In. According to the City of Lake Stevens, these funds have been instrumental in fostering improvements within the community.
