Las Cruces is ringing in the summer with the return of its beloved Music in the Park Series, a free, live entertainment staple that has been serenading the community for years. Launching on May 25th at Plaza de Las Cruces, the series opens with the Mayor's Jazz Fest at 7 p.m., featuring the renowned New Mexico jazz vocalist Hillary Smith and her Quintet, sharing the stage with the Las Cruces High School Jazz Band, according to the City of Las Cruces.
Providing a platform for both local and nationally recognized artists, the series touts more than 70% of performers hailing from the Las Cruces area. Concerts will take place every Sunday evening from June 1 through August 31, and will include additional shows on select Thursdays in July and August. Amidst the lineup, attendees can experience an array of musical genres from hard rock and grunge to country western, Spanish cumbia rhythms. Even a blend of funk and disco, ensuring a mix that caters to every taste, schedule, and time, may change, however, and for the latest updates, music lovers can visit the official City of Las Cruces website.
Highlights in the series include the Vick Walker Band and Cactus Creek twanging out country melodies on June 8 at Young Park, the soulful cumbia and ranchera beats of Papayas con Chile paired with Claudio Tolousse's R&B on June 29, and the My Fault Funk & Jazz Band bringing their brand of smooth tunes to the stage on July 27. In a special Thursday night session on July 17 at Amador LIVE, the melodic strings of Mariachi Real de El Paso will resonate alongside the norteño beats of Los Profes 915. The overall schedule promises each weekend to be loaded with vibrant performances and genres that flows across the spectrum of auditory delights.
