
Tragedy struck early Sunday morning when a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in west Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the fatal collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of South Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive. A 58-year-old local man was walking within the crosswalk when he was struck by a speeding black 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560, as witnessed by video evidence. News3LV noted that despite having a green light, the impact of the collision forced the pedestrian onto the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as 45-year-old Maurice Washington of Las Vegas, initially fled the scene but ultimately chose to return. Upon his arrival, police observed and reported "several signs of impairment." Washington has since been arrested and now faces DUI and hit-and-run-related charges. In a statement obtained by 8 News Now, authorities said that after fleeing, it didn't take long for the driver to seemingly reconsider and come back to where the incident occurred.
