A Hispanic man in his 20s was shot around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 4700 block of East Owens Avenue in northeast Las Vegas. Officers found him suffering from a gunshot wound, and medical personnel transported him to UMC, where he later died. Metro homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate, and police said the case remains an active, ongoing investigation.
Detectives Called to the Scene
According to FOX5 Vegas, Las Vegas police confirmed they are investigating a homicide in the northeast valley after the shooting Wednesday night. Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Police said the suspect was a man and had not released a motive. The block sits within LVMPD's Northeast Area Command, which is based out of a station on Cecile Avenue and covers unincorporated northeast Clark County stretching from Nellis Air Force Base down to East Charleston Boulevard, per department records.
A Block With a Violent Past
In March 2024, 26-year-old Gabriel Garcia was fatally shot on the same block before being dropped off at North Vista Hospital, a case that Metro took over after North Las Vegas police initially responded, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The East Owens corridor has seen a cluster of gun violence this fall alone. A woman was hospitalized after a shooting near Mews Lane and Searles Avenue, just south of East Owens, on October 1, and that came less than three weeks after a September 11 shooting near Mt. Hood Street and East Owens Avenue sent another victim to the hospital, as Hoodline previously reported. Both incidents were in the northeast valley.
Part of a Citywide Spike
Metro's jurisdiction has seen a rise in homicides this year. Homicides in Metro's jurisdiction had risen 21% year-to-date to 73 victims as of September 3, 2026, according to data reported by KSNV NBC News 3. That increase contrasts with 2025, when LVMPD's Annual Report showed homicides dropped 21.7% to 90 cases, down from 115 in 2024, with detectives maintaining a 96.58% solve rate.
Anyone with information about Wednesday's shooting can contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at (702) 385-5555. Police had described the suspect only as a man and had not released a motive as of Wednesday night, and homicide detectives continue to investigate.
