A Las Vegas man with a history of criminal convictions was handed a substantial prison sentence for a series of armed robberies. George Perez was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Miranda M. Du to 49 years behind bars for his crimes which terrorized local businesses over a brief but intense period in early 2022, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The U.S. Attorney's Office reveal that between January 19 and January 25 of that year, Perez executed seven robberies across Las Vegas. In almost all incidents, he feigned an intent to purchase merchandise before revealing a Taurus G2 9mm firearm, with which he threatened cashiers into handing over cash. The details of Perez's prior run-ins with the law were brought to light, highlighting his past convictions which included attempt possession of controlled substance with intent to sell; two burglaries; and possession of credit or debit card without cardholder’s consent, all in Clark County, Nevada, his possession of a firearm was illegal and exacerbated his legal woes.
After a five-day trial that concluded in February 2025, a jury found Perez guilty on multiple counts, including seven counts of interference with commerce by robbery and brandishing a firearm during these violent crimes, along with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
