
The Georgia Department of Corrections has promoted LaTrese Schofield to the position of Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at the Metro Reentry Facility, as per an announcement by Commissioner Tyrone Oliver today. Schofield, who previously held the position of Business Support Analyst III at the same facility, is poised to take responsibility for several critical services including educational programs, health, library, counseling, recreational, and mental health services for inmates, as detailed in a press release by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Boasting an extensive tenure that spans nearly three decades in correctional education and support Schofield has been a part of the GDC since 1996 where she began her journey as a part-time GED instructor, she made a transition in 2001 to the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice but continued in the educational realm before returning to the GDC in 2005 with the Office of Health Services as the Residential Housing Coordinator for Mental Health Management and carving her path through various roles before her recent promotion. "LaTrese has been a dedicated team member who has consistently displayed a strong work ethic," Commissioner Tyrone Oliver lauded, expressing confidence in her abilities to excel in her new role at the facility, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections official announcement.
Prior to her latest advancement, Schofield's professional development included notable positions such as a Medical Reprieve Coordinator within the Office of Health Services of GDC and serving at the Metro Reentry Facility since 2017. Schofield has also worked with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services in a capacity that further honed her expertise in addressing the multi-faceted needs of those within the state’s correctional systems.
Schofield's educational background features a Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Valley State University and her professional training encompasses various supervisory and management courses, specialized Cognitive and Substance Abuse Training, and POST Instructor Training, equipping her with a robust foundation to undertake the complex duties of Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Metro Reentry Facility, the responsibilities are substantial yet with the extensive training and experience acquired by Schofield throughout her nearly thirty years in service, she is deemed well-prepared to manage them.
