In Lauderdale County, a new training session is set to address the psychological toll on first responders, a demographic known for routine encounters with traumatic incidents. Announced via a social media post by Sheriff Brian Kelley of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, the West TN Regional Resiliency Training aims to shed light on coping strategies for those in high-stress emergency roles.
Slated for Friday, June 6, the event will bring together retired law enforcement officers and licensed clinical providers to guide first responders on how to navigate the aftermath of critical incidents. "Statistically, more than 80% of firefighters experience a traumatic event while on duty, often multiple times within a day," the Facebook post read, pointing to an urgent need for such mental health support initiatives.
The training is scheduled to occur at the UT Martin Ripley Center located at 315 S. Washington St., Ripley, TN, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. First responders interested in participating in this complementary initiative are encouraged to reach out to Chief Deputy Garrison Taylor for more information. Contact details, such as the email address [email protected] and the phone number 731-460-2016, were provided for potential attendees to register by the June 1 deadline.
