Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu were present to mark a new chapter for LEGO Group as they swung open the doors to their glossy new hub in the Back Bay neighborhood. Moving from their old digs in Enfield, Connecticut, the toy giant has now planted its flag at the Lyrik, 1001 Boylston Street, where it will steer its US operations into the future. According to a report by LEGO.com, their shiny new office encompasses 157,000 square feet over six levels, adding a generous dollop of Danish-designed workspace to Boston's real estate map.
Brushing aside any nostalgia for their Connecticut past, the company has fully committed to Boston, offering all 740 of their current full-timers from Connecticut a spot at the new location. Those opting against the move were given a financial cushion and job placement aid, as mentioned in an NBC Boston article. With the workspace designed with sustainability in mind, employees can look forward to LEED Gold and WELL Gold certification, hinting LEGO's nod to eco-friendly values and employee wellness. Plus, there's more than a splash of fun integrated into the office with its playful common areas and sky terraces.
The ribbon-cutting event wasn't just a show of the latest in office design. In what can only be described as a significant pledge to the children of Boston, LEGO announced a $5 million charitable commitment over the next two years to increase access to play across the city. "We have a long legacy of working with innovative Boston-based research and charitable partners to increase access to play for children here and around the world," LEGO Group Chief Commercial Officer Colette Burke shared, detailing their plans to partner with the Boston Public Library and pilot resources for new parents, as per LEGO.com.
LEGO is clearly building more than just office space in Boston. Their commitment extends to cultural and educational projects such as the LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network collaborations with Boston's children's and science museums. They're stirring up excitement with a World Play Day celebration slated for June 11 on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. And they're not stopping at offices—their blueprint for growth in the U.S. includes a Virginia-based factory and distribution center expected to provide jobs for around 2,000 people by 2027, per lego.com's updates.
