Fiesta Charra is bringing the vibrant culture of a traditional Charreada to Lewisville. Vivid Vita Events, in partnership with the City of Lewisville, is set to host this free public event today from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Bill Weaver Arena. Prepare to enjoy an afternoon and evening that promises to keep you entertained with various distinctly Mexican cultural celebrations and activities, per the City of Lewisville.
Attendees will be treated to an array of lively events from the Charreada, a type of rodeo originally practiced in Mexico. The program features performances by Ballet Folklorico and a horde of other culture-infused attractions, including Escaramuza Charra and horse dancing shows. For those with a competitive edge, the jalapeno eating contest, sponsored by Chisos Boots, is not to be missed, with the victor strutting away in a fresh pair of boots. A mix of musical acts, including Selena Forever and Javier Aguilar, are slated to take the stage, providing festival-goers with ongoing entertainment throughout the night.
Though entrance won't cost you a dime, those driving in might want to pocket a $10 bill for parking at the rodeo grounds. Alternatively, parking is also available at North Point Church or Lewisville City Hall, with a complimentary shuttle service running between City Hall and the event from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Just remember, while the event is kid-friendly, you might have to leave the cooler at home, given outside food and beverage policies.
While sipping on alcoholic beverages sold at the venue, event-goers can also catch cultural dance performances by Guadalupe Aztec Dancers and the Santa Monica Folkloric Dance Group. And in case you're planning to bring your furry friends along, pets are permitted on the fairgrounds on a leash, provided their human companions are responsible. However, pets aren't allowed on the shuttles, so plan accordingly.
