As Memorial Day approaches, the City of Litchfield Park has slated a ceremony to honor the legacy and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in service to the United States Armed Forces. Coming together at the World War II Memorial on the west side of Litchfield Elementary School, the community is invited to participate in a brief yet poignant tribute on May 26.
Mayor Thomas L. Schoaf will lead the 30-minute event, which will include patriotic music, the laying of flowers, a prayer for the fallen, and a brief moment of silence to honor the brave, followed by the solemn notes of Taps. According to the city’s announcement, attendees will also be treated to a special presentation after the ceremony, with light refreshments provided to ensure the remembrance is both reflective and community-oriented.
The ceremony, which aims to be accessible, encourages Litchfield Park residents to join in the commemoration, with parking available at the school’s south side lot. As details emerge about the event, those interested in attending can find more information on the city’s website.
