A Lowe's Foods employee is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Clayton store. The incident occurred around noon at the location on 11711 Clayton Boulevard, according to police reports.
As CBS17 detailed, the employee was busy collecting carts when a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe struck her. The vehicle was driven by Clayton resident Charlie Lee Walker Jr., 56. After the accident, the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was promptly transported to Wake Med hospital in Raleigh.
Following the event, Clayton Police have taken up the investigation. ABC11 reported that Police Chief Greg Tart confirmed the employee, a 52-year-old woman, experienced the life-threatening collision while attending to her duties in the parking lot area. Although specifics of the case are still emerging, authorities have not disclosed additional details relating to any potential charges.
This unfortunate event mirrors a similar incident that occurred just three weeks ago, where another grocery store worker was fatally injured after being hit at a Food Lion in Smithfield. As JoCoReport recalled, Steven M. White, the driver of the vehicle in that earlier accident was charged with felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired.
