A turn of events in Wexford County occurred when a van attempting to avoid a deer on US 131 rolled over into the median, critically injuring a Macomb County man and seriously injuring others. The crash took place near E 50 Road in Clam Lake Township around 11:15 p.m. on April 22, according to the Michigan State Police.
Upon their arrival, troopers discovered five individuals, ages 20 to 26, were inside the vehicle during the accident. Three of them were ejected from the van due to the force of the crash. A 22-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man from Grand Rapids sustained serious injuries, while a 20-year-old from Clinton Township was airlifted to Traverse City Munson Hospital listed in critical condition, ClickOnDetroit reported. Remarkably, the 23-year-old driver, also from Grand Rapids, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
In a social media update, MSP Seventh District emphasized the importance of seatbelt usage with a statement from Lt. Ashley Miller, "A seat belt will not only keep you behind the wheel, but it will also keep you inside of the vehicle,” said Lt. Ashley Miller. “We are seeing too many drivers not wearing their seat belts. Wear your seat belt; it will save your life."
