The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market will open on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meadowview Light Rail Station. The market will feature fresh produce, local artisans, and community events, according to the City of Sacramento.
The grand reopening of the market will include free face painting, a chance to win a bicycle (no need to be on-site), and entertainment from MK Mobile Music, the Oak Park youth dance troupe Confidence Is Everything, and the Fortune School Drumline. The market is "it’s a community space grounded in connection, food justice, and opportunities." It is supported by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen through the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Councilmember Mai Vang mentioned that "Access to fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant produce is essential to the well-being of our neighborhoods, and this market helps expand those opportunities for historically underserved areas in South Sacramento," as reported by the City of Sacramento.
The market features a variety of vendors, including fresh produce from local growers like J&J Ramos and Mae Baan Farm, and prepared food from Alchemist Kitchen Eats, Mama Vang’s, and Island Fin Poke. Alchemist CDC Executive Director Sam Greenlee said, "This market is a love letter to Meadowview and the surrounding neighborhoods and a great place to enjoy and support small businesses." Sacramento Regional Transit will offer free rides on the market’s opening day, and the market matches up to $15 of EBT benefits and SUN Bucks each week. The market is open every Sunday through October 26, rain or shine, as stated by the City of Sacramento.
