Mecklenburg County Public Health has been awarded accreditation with honors by the North Carolina Local Health Department Accreditation Board (NCLHD). According to the Mecklenburg County website, the recognition reflects the department’s compliance with public health standards and was acknowledged during the May 20 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Dr. Raynard Washington, Health Director, credited the staff’s work for meeting all 147 accreditation requirements during a March site visit—exceeding the 131 activities needed for standard accreditation.
The NCLHD Board also noted the department’s efforts in areas such as HIV care and prevention. Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual four-year accreditation cycle was extended to six years. This accreditation reflects Mecklenburg County Public Health’s adherence to state standards across core public health functions.
