Authorities have successfully apprehended 22-year-old Taylor McKinney, a suspect in a Memphis shooting that resulted in a fatality. After collaboration between the Memphis Police Department (MPD) and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), McKinney was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals.

The arrest stems from a March 13 incident where Deonte’ Reed was discovered dead from gunshot wounds on Chelsea Avenue in Memphis. A woman was also found at the scene with injuries from gunfire. By April 9, McKinney had multiple warrants out for his arrest including First Degree Murder and Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder, as detailed by the U.S. Marshals Service. It was yesterday when the USMS, aided by Shelby County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, managed to safely take McKinney at a residence without incident.

Following his arrest, McKinney was transported to Shelby County Jail. Marshal Tyreece Miller expressed his concern over the increase of deadly shootings in Memphis: "We recognize the recent escalation of deadly shootings in the City of Memphis," he stated. "I commend the work of MPD on solving these cases, as the U.S. Marshals Service remains steadfast in our efforts to remove dangerous trigger pullers from the streets," as stated by the U.S. Marshals Service. His comments reflect an ongoing acknowledgment of violence troubling the city.

As rreported by the US Marshals Service, the task force responsible for apprehending McKinney, the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF), operates within Western Tennessee and has been instrumental in capturing over 3,000 violent offenders since 2021.
