Memphis authorities have taken into custody a suspect after a high-speed chase that concluded with a crash and a surprising discovery involving a child. The Memphis Police Department released a statement on social media detailing the events that unfolded on the evening of May 13. According to the Memphis Police Department, the pursuit began when officers attempted to pull over a Toyota Avalon linked to a recent homicide. The driver, later identified as Markecio Graham, 29, allegedly declined to stop and led the police on a chase.
As reported by the Memphis Police Department, during the pursuit, the suspect was seen discarding a weapon from the vehicle, which the officers subsequently recovered. The chase ended abruptly when Graham's car collided with a fence on the 1900 block of Ezell. In a shocking turn, after the crash, Graham was witnessed to quickly remove an infant from the vehicle before attempting to flee on foot. Fortunately, officers could apprehend Graham without further incident, and it was confirmed that the child was unharmed.
Upon arrest, Graham faced a slew of charges, including possession of controlled substances and multiple accounts of animal cruelty, among others. The Memphis Police found marijuana in his possession during the initial search, and further discovery at the jail revealed Graham was carrying cocaine as well. His litany of charges now includes "Possession of a Controlled Substance to wit: Marijuana, Reckless Driving, Intentionally Evading Arrest in an Automobile, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Aggravated Child Abuse – Endangerment, Possession of/Taking Contraband into a Penal Facility, and Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Manufacture/Deliver/Sell."
The particulars of Graham's involvement with the referenced homicide remain under investigation, but the Memphis Police Department has signaled that this is a developing story with potential further implications. They have asked for anyone with additional information to come forward promptly.
