Memphis is gearing up to construct a major private development in Liberty Park this fall, with a new Hampton Inn by Hilton hotel primed to spearhead the project. Along with 152 guest rooms, the five-story hotel, located at the northeast corner of Early Maxwell Boulevard and Raymond Skinner Drive, will feature a 5,000-square-foot restaurant and a rooftop bar offering scenic views of Liberty Park and Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. The city council unanimously greenlit the $112.5 million initiative, kicking off what Mayor Paul Young calls an effort to create energy and opportunity for Memphis.

"The concept behind Liberty Park was always about creating energy and opportunity for Memphis. From day one, we envisioned this development as a way to grow our City’s revenue base by creating spaces that draw people in," Mayor Young told the City of Memphis. With the Memphis Sports & Events Center's packed schedule attracting thousands weekly, the new development—comprising the hotel, 215 apartments, and 20,000 square feet of retail space—promises to bolster the city's revenue base.

Capstone Development and Memphis-based M&M Enterprises (MME) aren't just stopping at the hotel. They're also setting their sights on two residential and retail buildings facing Central Avenue within Liberty Park. Those opting for a new address in the five-story buildings will find 215 apartments, 43 reserved for those earning up to 80% of the area median income, and a slice of retail space right on their doorstep. LRK Architects and Bounds & Gillespie Architects are behind the design, while Patton & Taylor Enterprises General Contractors will be handling construction, which is set to kick off simultaneously for both projects in the last quarter of 2025 and is expected to open its doors by early 2027.

Liberty Park isn't just bringing in residents and visitors; it's taking a proactive approach to the influx of traffic the new additions will invite. Memphis Tigers football fans and event-goers will navigate the park with assistance from a traffic management plan by engineering firm Kimley-Horn. Designed to evolve alongside construction and operation, the plan aims to keep the park accessible for various events and everyday life.
