The City of Mesquite is set to hold a Memorial Day remembrance service on May 26. This event will gather community members for a collective act of remembrance. Scheduled to start at 2:55 p.m. at the Mesquite Veterans Memorial, located at 425 S. Galloway Ave, the service aims to join the National Moment of Remembrance, which asks for a nationwide moment of silence at 3 p.m. to honor military service members who have died.
During the service, Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. is expected to make remarks, and there will be a reading of names—those from Mesquite who paid the ultimate price for their country. According to the City of Mesquite, the program has been designed to collectively pause and solemnly recognize the sacrifices made by fallen service members.
In 2020, the Mesquite Veterans Memorial was inaugurated at City Lake Park, now a testament to local heroes. The memorial is marked by a 7-foot-wide column that bears the names of Mesquite's military veterans who lost their lives in service. It serves as a place for Memorial Day activities and a year-round space for reflection and honor.
