A Mexican national has been sentenced to 17 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release. It was issued on Monday by U.S. District Judge Cristina D. Silva, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
On September 29, 2024, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement identified Cristian Alberto Nunez-Hipolito following previous removals from the United States in 2018 and 2020. He was taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody the next day after being arrested by state authorities on unrelated charges and held on an immigration detainer. Nunez-Hipolito was previously convicted in 2019 for an immigration-related offense and in 2017 for robbery in California, as mentioned by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Nunez-Hipolito pleaded guilty to the charge of Deported Alien Found in the United States, his second conviction for this offense. The case was handled by U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office. His sentencing was announced by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reminds the public that suspected illegal activity can be reported by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE or through their online form, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
